外公的江湖

Grandpa's Jianghu

外公很小的时候，就开始流落江湖，干过很多卖苦力的事情。最让他津津乐道的，就是在桂林城里拖黄包车和在衡州府挑南盐。

1200多年前，宋进士、宝庆邵阳令、渔溪王氏鼻祖王万庄公卜居衡阳长平乡大渔塘（今栗江镇隆市村）兴建王氏宗祠崇本堂——王家祠堂，见家人手提一斗芝麻过堂址，脱口而出“吾门必出一斗芝麻官”，并雄心勃勃地在祠堂正门悬匾“楚南第一家”，嵌联“古今忠孝门第，世代耕读人家”。 明皇朱棣于永乐二十年（1422）旨赐王家祠堂为“衡阳第一家”。

More than 1,200 years ago, the Song dynasty jin-shi, Bao Qing Shaoyang Ling(mayor of Shaoyang), ancestral ancestor of Wang's family in Yu Xi, Wang Wanzhuang, lived in the Dayutang, Changping township, Hengyang(now Lijiang town Longshi village). While the Wang ancestral hall was under construction, he saw a relative helding a bucket of sesame passed by, then he blurted out with "there must be a sesame official come out from our family " , and ambitiously hung a plaque "Chu Nan first family" in the main hall , embedded with couplet "loyalty and filial piety in ancient and modern times, farming and reading people from generation to generation" . The Emperor Zhu di had granted "the first family of Hengyang" in the 20th year of the Yongle Reign(1422).

外公王一汉就出身于“衡阳第一家”的王氏大家族，不是江湖中的大侠，只不过在江湖中混口饭吃而已。

My grandfather Wang Yihan was born in the Wang family, a large family known as the first family in Hengyang. But he was not the hero of Jianghu, only earned a living in it.

外公没有读过多少书，唯一能够让他自傲的，是把《增广贤文》能够倒背如流。所以，他入世很深，对社会上的人情世故知之甚详，做人做事都很有一套。

Grandpa had not read much, the only thing that made him proud was that he could recite the Popular Collection of Traditional Chinese Wise Sayings fluently. Therefore, he had a deep accession to the society, mastered the worldly wisdom very well, and he had a good way of doing things and treating people.

外公很小的时候，就开始流落江湖，干过很多卖苦力的事情。最让他津津乐道的，就是在桂林城里拖黄包车和在衡州府挑南盐。

When grandpa was very young, he began to live in the world and did a lot of hard work. What he enjoyed most was towing rickshaws in Guilin and transporting southern salt to Hengzhou.

桂林城里拖黄包车，没有太多的故事，就是他帮自己的亲弟弟，在全州县找了户家境殷实的好人家，上门当了女婿，从此衣食无忧。那时候，外公们的要求很低，只要有口饱饭吃，不被饿死，那就是幸福生活。

There were not many stories when towing rickshaws in Guilin, except helping his own brother find a Well-to-do family in Quanzhou County and became a son-in-law. At that time, the requirements of the grandpas were very low, as long as he had a good meal and wouldn't starve to death, it was a happy life.

在衡州府挑南盐，当然很苦，全凭着一副扁担和一双草鞋，肩挑上百斤的食盐，在石板路上走动。不管刮风下雨，还是烈日当头，一天几十里的路程，汗如雨下，没有一副好身板，没有一身好力气，是吃不了这份苦，做不了这件事的。再苦再累，拼了命去做，也不可能发大财，成为富翁。干了多年，还是混口饭吃而已。

It was certainly bitter to transport the southern salt in Hengzhou, with a pair of shoulder pole and a pair of straw shoe, carrying a hundred pounds of salt on the shoulder and walking on the stone road. No matter whether it is windy or rainy or scorching, walking dozens of miles a day with sweat running down like raindrops would never be absent. It is impossible to endure such hardship without a good body and strength. No matter how hard you work, you couldn't make a fortune and become rich. After working for many years,grandpa just succeeded to make ends meet.

有一次，挑盐途中，遭遇了一对姐弟，病倒在路边等死。跟国医高手相比，外公算是个略知中草药的人，家传秘方、偏方有几大箩筐。他就在附近找寻了几把草药，救活了她们。那个姐姐比外公大了五六岁，弟弟比外公小两岁。姐姐自作主张，为感谢外公的救命之恩，真的就以身相许。这就是我的外婆李宁顺。她弟弟李宁壁改了姓氏，随着外公姓王，按王氏家谱辈分“俊秀继芳诚，一元余运会”，跟外公平辈，取了“一”字，名没有改，他就是我的满外公王一壁。

On one occasion, on the way to carry salt, grandpa encountered a pair of brother and sister fell ill and waited for death on the side of the road. Compared with the high-skilled masters of Chinese medicine, grandpa was a person who knows a little about Chinese herbs. As there're several baskets of family secret recipes and partial prescriptions in his mind, he found some herbs nearby and saved them. The elder sister was five or six years older than grandpa, and his younger brother was two years younger than grandpa. d In order to thank my grandfather for the life-saving grace, the sister made a self-assertion to married him and became my grandmother Li Ningshun. Her younger brother, Li Ningbi, changed his surname Li to my grandpa's surname Wang. According to Wang's family tree"Jun Xiu Ji Fang Cheng, Yi Yuan Yu Yun Hui", the younger brother and grandpa were the same generation, so he took the word "One" , and his name was not changed, he is my little grandpa Wang Yibi.

满外公王一壁，自小天生神力，可以抱着刚生下来的小牛犊，满屋场走动，脸不红气不喘，轻松得很。后来他参加了解放军，随军进了北京城，据说当过彭德怀司令的警卫员，在中央军委里都混过。后来转业到山西省灵石县，在当地娶了个貌美如花的老婆，生了四个女儿一个儿子。“文化大革命”中惨遭批斗，他最小的儿女两个人还回到湖南乡下老家读书，苦了好几年。满外公离休后还回到湖南，自己花钱在老家到处栽树，决心要改变家乡的面貌。

My little grandpa Wang Yibi was born with divine power, he could hold the newborn calf walking around the house while his face was not red and breathless, these things seemed so easy for him. Later, he joined the People's Liberation Army and marched into Beijing . It's said that he had been a guard of commander Peng Dehuai, and even had been in the Central Military Commission. Later, he moved to Lingshi County, Shanxi Province, where he married a beautiful wife and gave birth to four daughters and a son. In the "Cultural Revolution", he was brutally criticized, and his youngest son and daughter were forced to go back to hometown in Hunan to study for years. After his retirement, he returned to Hunan, where he spent money planting trees everywhere, determined to change the face of his hometown.

外公王一汉是穷苦人出身，解放后他当上了村里的第一任农协会主席，光荣地加入了中国共产党。他的江湖生涯，也就从此终结。

Grandpa Wang Yihan was born a poor man, he became the first chairman of the Peasant Association after liberation in the village and joined the Chinese Communist Party with honor,thus his career in Jianghu was over.

外公的家族很庞大，很强悍，但是，对于他个人来说，却是毫无用处，没有一点帮助，所以才使他流浪江湖，为生存拼博，在社会的最底层挣扎求存....

Grandpa's family was large and very powerful, but for him personally, it was useless and unhelpful, and that's what made him a vagabond, fighting for survival, and struggling to survive at the bottom of society.

外公遗留给我很多的爱，我童年的岁月里，全都是外公带着我上山挖草药的温馨记忆.......

Grandpa left me a lot of love, my childhood was all the warm memories of grandfather taking me up the mountain to dig herbs......

外公，祝你在天堂里安好！
